Spring Equinox Firewalk 2008
There be Dragons
On the 20th March, the moment of Spring Equinox, when the sun moved into Aries, we had the most powerful firewalk. There
was a dragon energy to this night which was remarkable. It was clear
right from the start that this was going to be an intense firewalking
experience. As the group went outside to light the fire, the wind
really picked
up, blasting the wood with enough oxygen for the flames to be white
hot.

I always use corn oil to help light the fire, it's an
important factor; petrochemicals destroy the organic, natural energy
that is needed for this kind of fire. We poured the oil onto the
carefully prepared pyre before lighting it, and as soon as it was lit,
the flames roared into life. The wood blazed with a wild pattern of
dragon scales all across the logs, like a small dragon had landed.
This
picture is interesting, we had a number of pictures like this, all with
a large glow in the centre of the fire. In each picture, taken from
different angles and at different times during the evening, the glow
was in the same place. I would have expected the glow to be all around
the fire, yet there was a definite central orb.
I talked of the
Kalahari Kung Bushmen, master firewalkers who, after spending the night
dancing around the fire, walk across it for the healing of their
community . I had to talk loudly, the fire roared above my voice. I
talked about NUM (Bushmen use this word for energy, chi, prana,
lifeforce) I explained their belief; that when your NUM is at the level
of the fire's NUM, then it would be safe to walk. We walked around the
fire and a blast of wind made the hot flames flare up into our faces!
We were going to need a lot of NUM!
The workshop was intense, it
needed to be - it was starting to look like we wouldn't be walking on
fire, rather we would be walking on a furnace. The wind blew away any
layer of ash. Some believe that the ash acts as an insulator,
preventing burns and cooling the surface of the firewalk. We had no
ash, just cherry red coals, blown up into a furnace - it was like the
fire of the forge. This was certain to be a powerful force of
transformation. This was by far the hottest firewalk I had ever
experienced.
Just as we were letting go of limitations and stomping on our fears, Max
waved his torch at me through the window, indicating that the bed was
ready. As soon as I declared the fire was ready for us, the energy of
the group increased tenfold.
We
went out to the fire with the usual trepidation and raked the coals.
This is a great part of the workshop, the realisation of what you about
to do hits hard as you lean into the fire and experience the intense
heat of the coals on your arms and face.
I
always allow a few moments for anyone who wishes to go first;
occasionally the firewalkers can't wait to cross the coals and I
empower that by holding back to allow it to happen. Of course, tonight
it didn't happen and I walked first to show it was safe. I walked, I
felt the heat on the soles of my feet; the energy rose up through my
body and I shouted YES! The group followed me through the flames and
one after another, cheered.
It
was like walking on dragon breath, we all felt the intensity of the
heat on our feet. This forge fire, in any other circumstances would
have caused very serious burns, this one left the group with only a couple of
fire kisses (small hotspots on the feet which had disappeared by the
next morning). One participant said she was very happy with her fire
kiss - it made it more real, like she had really accomplished something
amazing.
It
was, as always, incredible to see the magical transformation. People
who were worried at the start that they would burn, glided gracefully
across the walk in full confidence and felt exhilerated at the other
end, having broken through their fears and affirmed a powerful new
vision - I did it! Yes! I am safe!
Wow,
what an awesome evening. One of the participants told me that this was
an incredible experience; she felt liberated by the experience and
it has since empowered her to make more positive choices in her life. I
also felt powerfully transformed and energised, I still do, and I am
ready for whatever magic the next stage of my journey brings.
This was a magical firewalk in deed.
Fire burns? Not necessarily....
